Q #8: What are the benefits of joining Gamma Gamma Chi? A: The benefits are numerous. We provide life skills like leadership development, encouragement and assistance to foster scholastic achievement, opportunities to serve our communities through philanthropic events, and lasting lifelong friendships.
Most importantly we serve as a support system for women in our community. Membership in Gamma Gamma Chi is especially beneficial to those who desire to continue to practice the Deen of Islam.
Q #9: Does Gamma Gamma Chi have a "brother fraternity?" A: No. There are no known Islamic-based fraternities that would match our values. If such a fraternity emerges in the future we will examine whether to link with them in light of Islamic principles.
Q #10. How Islamic is Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc.? Being Islamic-based means that we will adhere to the Sunnah in all that we do. Being a sorority means that we have certain expectations and responsibilities that we plan to meet inshallah. The expectation is that we will have an organization that enables us to enjoy sisterhood, maintain scholarship and academic excellence among our sorors, to engage in activities that will help strengthen leadership skills, and to provide community service--particularly to the Muslim communities in which we live through our chapter involvement and at the National level. While we will not proselytize, we will demonstrate ways to try to serve and please Allah (SWT) in all that we do. We see this as an excellent opportunity to give dawah to non-Muslims, so they are welcome to join us as long as they help advance the mission of promoting positive visibility of Muslim women and Islam in general.
Q #11. I am a Shi'ia/Moor/other faith. Is Gamma Gamma Chi tolerant of my beliefs, and will I be able to follow my prayer timings and other requirements if I become a member? The sorority is open to all women regardless of their faiths as long as they support the mission of the Sorority: To unify Muslim collegiate and professional women and to promote Islam.
Q #12. What's a legacy? A legacy is a prospective member whose parent, grandparent, or sibling is an initiated member of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. Contrary to popular myths, being a legacy does not guarantee that a prospective member will be offered membership in the Sorority. Each person earns membership based on her own merits.
Q #13. What is the intake process? The intake process is an educational period when a prospective member learns about the sorority, its history, goals and objectives, and values. This time is critical for both the prospective member and existing members to determine whether there is a match. Our intake process begins with the initial inquiry and continues through the probationary process that lasts no more than 21 days and ends with an induction ceremony when the prospective member (sometimes called a "pledge" in other sororities) becomes an official member of our sorority. During the induction ceremony, new members receive the official sorority pin and Members Only information. The induction ceremony is private and can only be attended by full-fledged members.
Q #14. When can I wear my Greek letters and sorority crest? During the intake process, you are allowed to wear specially designed clothing that bears the name Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. or a derivative thereof (such as GGChi or Gamma). At this time, whenever the name is used it will be accompanied by the words Gamma Lily, indicating that you are in the intake process but not an inducted member. Wearing the crest is reserved for members who have completed the induction ceremony.
Q #15. If I am a member of a Greek lettered organization already, may I join Gamma Gamma Chi? We are unable to accept for membership an undergraduate who already belongs to another sorority. Graduates who have membership in another sorority are eligible to be considered; however, we hope that they will choose to discontinue membership in the other sorority in order to devote their time and attention to Gamma Gamma Chi.
