of Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. After searching unsuccesfully for a sorority that didn't force her to compromise her religious beliefs, she asked her mother, Dr. Althia F. Ali, to develop an organizational structure which led to the establishment of the first Islamic-based sorority.

Striving for the pleasure of Allah through sisterhood, scholarship,
leadership, and community serviceGamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. was founded by the daughter-mother team of Imani Canty and Dr. Althia F. Ali. Since its founding on April 3, 2005, the sorority has established five chapters that serve seven states:
National Grand Chapter - established on November 13, 2005. Membership in this chapter is reserved for members of the Board of Directors and honorary members Alpha Chapter - established on April 23, 2006. This chapter serves the Atlanta metro area. Beta Chapter - established on July 22, 2006. This chapter serves the Washington, DC, metro area (including Northern Virginia and Maryland). Beta Chapter - installed new members on July 21, 2007 (front row) Gamma Chapter - established on April 8, 2007. This chapter was established to serve the Greensboro Triad area. The chapter was reclaimed by National at the beginning of 2009. Note: Yasmin Marquis (far left, black scarf) was inducted into Beta Chapter at this same time. Delta Chapter - established on May 26, 2007. This chapter serves the Chicago metro area. Epsilon Chapter - established on June 17, 2007. This chapter serves the Philadelphia metro area.
