				Soror Rasheeda Salaam Receives Highest Sorority Award for 2008
				Alpha Chapter Soror Rasheeda Salaam has been selected to receive the Six Pillars Award for 2008. The Six Pillars Award is the highest award that a soror can earn from Gamma Gamma Chi Sorority, Inc. for demonstrating significant personal growth and exemplary service to the sorority. Selection is made by the President and Executive Director. In announcing the selection of Soror Rasheeda for this award, Dr. Althia F. Ali, GGChi's President and Executive Director, said: "I'm very pleased to present Soror Rasheeda with the Six Pillars Award. This year, Rasheeda truly distinguished herself. During 2008, she worked to build the membership in the chapter with Alpha Chapter President Wakilat Kasumu by holding Gold Presentations, attending community events, and reaching out to others who might support GGChi. Rasheeda also served as co-chair of GammaFest with National Grand Chapter member Imani Canty for the second straight year. She was our second highest fundraiser for GammaFest, providing funds that we sorely needed. The work of preparing for GammaFest was a huge commitment of time and resources, and Soror Rasheeda exceeded my expectations in every way. When we were required to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors, Soror Rasheeda was an obvious choice. Despite all of her other commitments, she enthusiastically accepted this position. At any time she has been asked to serve, Rasheeda has always responded in the affirmative. She is a true Gamma, and I can't think of anyone who deserves this recognition for 2008 more than Rasheeda Salaam." Soror Rasheeda earned her Bachelor's degree from Hampton University and her Master's degree from Troy State University. An Alabama native, she works as a Parent Facilitator at Dekalb County Schools System.
